Lisa Laughy

Biographical Information:

Lisa Laughy is a Celtic designer living in northern New Hampshire. She first became fascinated with the illuminated manuscripts of early medieval Ireland while attending a weekend workshop in Celtic illumination her freshman year at college. For over 15 years she has worked developing a personal style within the Celtic genre.

Lisa says about her work:
" In my study of traditional examples of Celtic Christian art, including illuminated gospel books, metalwork reliquaries, and carved stone high crosses, I am drawn to the fact that all share an underlying quality that unites them regardless of having been produced by a variety of artists in different media. What continues to fascinate and challenge me as an artist is my desire to truly understand the essential nature connecting the diverse expressions of this style of work. It is my desire to continue this tradition and share my interest of this deeply spiritual and symbolic art form."

Lisa's artwork has been published in books and magazines, and in a range of product designs. In addition to working as a freelance illustrator, Lisa also creates ecclesiastical commissions working as a woodcarver and painter. Her most recent commission is a baptismal triptych for an Episcopal Church in northern New Hampshire. She exhibits her original paintings in galleries throughout New England, and across the country.

More of her work can be seen at her website, www.ninthwavedesigns.com.
