Biographical Information:

Sister Mary Grace came from a family rich in faith and artistic gifts, which she developed in her growing years as much as her opportunities permitted. She followed a vocation to the Order of Discalced Carmelites in 1981. Because her community in the Carmel of Terre Haute designed and printed novena announcements and holy cards several times a year, she was called upon to channel her talents into the needed artwork. This in turn served as a kind of exercise period for the growth of her skills.

Sister Mary Grace has been trying her hand at icons for a long time, mostly for community needs or special occasions. Largely self-taught, she has read on the subject and consulted with knowledgeable friends over the years. Her confidence grew slowly over time as her work progressed and her spiritual life deepened. She sees the writing of icons as an outflow of her life of prayer.
