Biographical Information: Fr. Pachomius Meade, O.S.B. has been a monk of Conception Abbey since 2001. He was drawn to monastic life partly out of a desire to use his artistic talents for the glory of God and the good of the Church. While still in temporary vows, the abbot sent him to study under Br. Claude Lane, O.S.B. of Mount Angel Abbey in Oregon. He has continued to develop his skill through long-distance correspondence and periods of further study with that master iconographer. Father Pachomius considers himself a Catholic iconographer, making icons which follow the rules, techniques, and models of classic iconography. What the Russians called "melted colors"—the subtle gradations of color and highlights—are what he excels at, and he enjoys making present the heavenly realm with sacred images. Fr. Pachomius has also done graphic art and text writing for greeting cards at the Printery House. |
