This card reproduces one of the 32 paintings of angels which adorn the ceiling vaults of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception at Conception Abbey. The originals were painted during the last decade of the nineteenth century by monks of the Abbey under the direction of Fr. Lukas Etlin, O.S.B.
These angels bear in their veiled hands the emblems of royalty signifying the Blessed Virgin Mary's honorific title “Queen of Heaven.” This title opens the Easter Marian antiphon, “Regina Coeli,” which calls upon the Blessed Virgin to rejoice in the resurrection of her Son. It is also commemorated in the fifth Glorious Mystery of the Rosary, Mary’s coronation as Queen of Heaven.
