This handcrafted ceramic mug displays St. Bonaventure, widely known as the "Seraphic Doctor" as he was declared the Doctor of the Church in 1588. St. Bonaventure was canonized on April 14, 1482. Some of his life work included an attempt to integrate faith and reason, which helped Franciscans become the most prominent order in the Catholic Church until the coming of the Jesuits. He believed Christ was our "one true master" who gave us knowledge beginning in faith, developed through rational understanding and perfected by our unity with God.
The prayer on the mug reads "Pierce, O most sweet Lord Jesus, my inmost soul with the most joyous and healthful wound of thy love, and with true, calm and most holy apostolic charity, that my soul may ever languish and melt with entire love and longing for thee, may yearn for thee and for thy courts, may long to be dissolved and to be with thee.
