On the Feast Day of St. Joseph

Left: Saint Joseph, husband of Mary, was a humble carpenter chosen to be the earthly father of Jesus. Working with Joseph in his carpentry shop, Jesus learned the trade and spent his early years as a carpenter. There is a beautiful symmetry in the idea that God, Creator of the Universe, chose to become the earthly son of Joseph, a man who created with his hands. Joseph’s life gave meaning and sanctification to human work. For that, he became our faithful example of serving family and society while praising God through daily work. Right: Saint Joseph was a loving protector and provider for Jesus. As we celebrate this feast day, we pray that Saint Joseph may inspire us to show this same devotion and loving care to our families, while using our hands, minds, and lives to glorify God through our daily work.
